"It was always about oil": Delcy Rodriguez, the interim president of Venezuela, criticizes Trump
CaracasDelcy Rodriguez, the interim president of Venezuela, denounced President Donald Trump for carrying out strikes against the Latin American country and declared that claims about drugs, democracy, and human rights were all "false." Although she acknowledged that Venezuela is open to energy relations where "all parties benefit," she claimed that all of these accusations were made by the US due to its interests in the nation's "oil."
Speaking at the Venezuelan Parliament on Thursday, the 56-year-old acting president made the statements.
Rodriguez declared, "We are an energy powerhouse, we truly are." "It has caused us a great deal of trouble because, as you are all aware, the North's energy greed demands our nation's resources. Additionally, we have condemned all of its lies regarding human rights, democracy, and drug trafficking. They served as justifications because the (threat) that Venezuela's oil must be given to the global North has always existed.
The US attacks Venezuela and apprehends Nicolas MaduroOver the past few months, tensions between the US and Venezuela have skyrocketed as Trump has accused President Nicolas Maduro of aiding narco terrorists. Additionally, on January 3, the US launched strikes, captured Maduro, and then flew him out of Venezuela. Maduro is being tried in New York after being transported there.
According to Trump, the US will now be in charge of Venezuela's oil reserves. It should be mentioned that Venezuela possesses one of the world's largest oil reserves. The US president stated earlier in the day that Venezuela would only buy American-made goods "with the money receive" from the new oil deal. According to him, Venezuela is pledging to do business with the United States as its "principal partner."
He wrote on Truth Social, "These purchases will include, among other things, American Agricultural Products, and American Made Medicines, Medical Devices, and Equipment to improve Venezuela’s Electric Grid and Energy Facilities."
