Bangladesh is prepared for a "practical solution" to participate in the 2026 T20 World Cup after receiving communication from the ICC.
New DelhiFollowing communication with the ICC regarding their request to move Bangladesh's T20 World Cup matches outside of India due to security concerns, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued an official statement. Following national outcry, the BCCI requested that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) withdraw from their 2026 squad, prompting BCB to take this action.
According to BCB's statement, the ICC promised to take into account the board's security-related recommendations when organizing the massive event. However, BCB has categorically refuted reports that it received an ultimatum from the ICC. Additionally, BCB is prepared to collaborate with the ICC to find a workable solution for their seamless participation in the T20 World Cup, which will begin in India and Sri Lanka next month.
"The International Cricket Council (ICC) has responded to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding the Board's concerns regarding the safety and security of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in India for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, including the request to move the team's matches." The ICC has reaffirmed in its correspondence its dedication to guaranteeing the Bangladeshi team's complete and continuous participation in the competition.
"The ICC has made it clear that it is willing to collaborate closely with the BCB to resolve the issues brought up, and it has promised that the Board's suggestions will be appreciated and appropriately taken into account as part of the event's comprehensive security planning. Additionally, the BCB has taken note of some reports that have appeared in some media outlets and suggest that the Board has received an ultimatum in this regard. The BCB unequivocally declares that such assertions are wholly untrue, baseless, and do not accurately represent the type or content of the correspondence obtained from the ICC.
"To find a friendly and workable solution that guarantees the team's seamless and successful participation in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, the Board will continue constructive engagement with the ICC and pertinent event authorities in a cooperative and professional manner. The safety, security, and welfare of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team continue to be the top priorities for the Bangladesh Cricket Board, according to a statement from the BCB.
