New Delhi

Jana Nayagan has encountered a last-minute obstacle in India with just two days remaining before its scheduled January 9 release. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) clearance is still pending for the film's crew, which is led by director H Vinoth. The Madras High Court is set to hear the case on Wednesday, January 7. The film is billed as Thalapathy Vijay's final acting project, so the delay has put pressure on the producers.

The movie has gotten its first official censorship approval abroad, despite the ongoing uncertainty in India. With a rating of 15, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has approved Jana Nayagan for release in the UK, enabling audiences 15 years of age and older to see it in theaters. The movie is scheduled to be released on Friday in India and other countries.

Jana Nayagan is cleared in the UK

As Thalapathy Vijay's film continues to fight for last-minute clearance back home, Jana Nayagan's UK clearance makes it the first market to approve it.

Jana Nayagan has a 15-age rating, according to the BBFC website. "No one younger than 15 may see 15-rated content in a theater" is what it means. A 15-rated video cannot be purchased or rented by anyone under the age of 15.

"Strong bloody violence, injury detail, and sexual violence references" is the additional description of the movie.

Jana Nayagan has not yet been cleared by the CBFC.

On December 18, the film's crew submitted it for certification. The committee that saw the movie on December 19 reportedly recommended that some scenes be cut and some dialogue be muted. The movie was resubmitted even though the producers claimed the modifications were made. Nevertheless, approval has not been given.

The producers then filed a censor certificate plea with the Madras High Court. On Tuesday, January 6, Justice PT Asha verbally requested that the CBFC present a copy of the complaint it had received, which claimed the movie offended religious sentiments, to the court. On Wednesday, January 7, the board was instructed to turn in the document. We're waiting for an update on the hearing.
